Baniwal secured the award after smashing her previous hammer throw record by more than a metre, taking the club’s season tally to 24 perfect fives.
Connor Bowden and Teaghan Goodger just missed out on joining the duo, recording four personal bests on the day.
“It seems the recent success of the club at the Longreach carnival has carried over to our recent club day,” coach Ken Dickson said.
“Considering the success the athletes have had this year, it’s a credit to them and their coaches that they are consistently improving.”
Sienna Stebhens continued to build on her Junior Champion Runner-up at the Longreach Carnival, smashing the seven-year-girls 100 metre mark.
Stebhens’ time of 17.4 seconds breaks the record held by Nakita Daley from 2004.
The 100-metre seemed a popular event with 10-year-old Denzil Perkins (13.7s) and Kale “Blackflash” Johnson (10.7s) both lowering their times.
Eleven-year-old Michelle Bracs missed improving her 100-metre time by 0.01 seconds, after clocking a time of 13.8 seconds, equalling her current record.
Stephen Zoch found his stride in the 30-34yrs 90m hurdles, dropping his record by more than three seconds (13.7s).
Hammer throwers Bieanna Waerea (24.26m), Mitchell Hujanen (35.49m), Nancy Wing (14.84m) and Ken Dickson (27.29m) all improved their respective distances.
Nikaylah Kjaergaard’s extraordinary long jumping saw her receive her second ‘Top Tot’ award for the season.
Nine athletes – Teaghan Goodger, Illy Chapman, Conor Bowden, Michelle Bracs, Kisha Simpson, Rhylee Douglas, Tia Peel, Trinity Perkins and Jace Fraser – added to the season total of 227 legend certificates for the season.
With three weeks remaining, the second best total of 256 in 2013 could be in danger.
Following the completion of the club day’s, the club will hold a Retro Day giving athletes a chance to compete in events of days gone by, such as 70m sprints, pole vault and walks.
This will be the final tune-up before 50 athlete’s head to Townsville for the Athletics North Queensland Championships on October 3-5.
