The judges said: "This was an incredibly strong category with many notable entries showcasing a broad range of online journalism techniques which made it difficult to judge. The Brisbane Times team entry demonstrates excellent use of online immediacy to deliver rolling news coverage to the audience. The team incorporates multimedia well and shows strong audience engagement through material sourced from the audience and on the ground reporters."

Reporter Kim Stephens was highly commended in the commentary, analysis, opinion & critique category for her article There's No Bravery in No Make-Up Selfies 

And sports editor Phil Lutton was a finalist in the sports journalism category for his article An Experiment in Power: Leapai's Super-Punch Revealed.
