Despite losing their last two contests with their opponents, Tigers proved why they were the pacesetters all season.
Tigers star Danielle Rainey said the team went into the match quietly confident despite Parkside’s recent form against them.
“We were missing players in both of our recent losses to Parkside, so we knew with a full-strength squad that we would be a lot closer,” she said.
While the four-goal win suggests a one-sided contest, Rainey said the match was a lot tighter than the score showed.
“We scored two goals in the first half through Sharon Voss and Zara Hartley, but the match felt like it was equal, by how tight it was,” Rainey said.
“To Parkside’s credit, they never gave up, despite Voss scoring her second and Shannon Sweeney finishing off a nice play.”
Before the match, the players agreed they should play their strongest 11 players to improve their chances of winning the match, but the coaches disagreed.
“The side wanted to give us the best chance we had of winning but the coaches decided that they would rotate the full squad,” Rainey said.
“They stated that the whole squad had gotten us to this point, so they weren’t going to change that now.
“It worked out well in the end, with everyone receiving even run and getting solid minutes ahead of the grand final in two weeks.”
Midfielders Lauren Jamison and Hartley dominated the match, seemingly controlling the tempo.
“Lauren was probably our strongest player on the night and Zara and Josie Watt weren’t far behind,” Rainey said.
“Andrea Skinner was continuing causing problems for Parkside while goalkeeper Sami Piggot continued her strong form, keeping another clean sheet.”
In the other matches, Isaroos lost 3-1 to Atlas in the third versus fourth play-off in controversial circumstances.
After a dull scoreless first half, the match sparked to life in the second, starting with a break-away goal to Paige Barrow for Isaroos.
Isaroos’ momentum was halted when play was stopped for 10 minutes as Atlas had a player helped from the field.
With five minutes to go, Atlas was awarded a penalty after a handball in the Isaroos box, which it converted.
Isaroos nearly claimed the win when Barrow whipped in a corner and Sarah Astbury’s header missed by centimetres.
The match finished at 1-1 but Isaroos went in the more confident, having a player advantage and most of the possession.
Isaroos had two solid chances to take the lead but on both occasions, the Atlas keeper was too good for Isaroos striker Mordy.
Salt was rubbed into the wounds moments later when Atlas kicked a wonder goal from close to halfway, as the Isaroos goalkeeper was off her line.
The match was decided when Atlas scored its third goal in controversial circumstances when the ball appeared to come loose from the goalkeeper after she was taken out.
The win means Atlas plays Parkside for a place in the A grade grand final next Friday night at the Mount Isa soccer fields.
The Isaroos will play Rippers in the Bgrade final, after they defeated Inter 2-0, with Bev Peters again starring.
