George Street residents Inelda Sim returned home from work on Sunday to find her pet dog Bones stuck in her back gate with bite marks on his face and blood coming from a wound on his neck.
She alleged Bones’ face and neck were bitten several times by two dogs that came onto her property through the side driveway of her home.
Mrs Sim said her dog was pulled through the gaps in their back fence by the two dogs and attacked while his neck was trapped between the metal bars.
“They pulled his neck outside of the gate and he was stuck in there and couldn’t get back because they were already chewing on his neck and head,” she said.
Mrs Sim said her neighbour was able to scare away the dogs when he realised what was going on and drove to her workplace to pick her up before they could rush Bones to a local veterinarian for treatment. “Luckily the neighbour saw him otherwise I would have come home to find my dog’s head hanging in the gate,” she said.
The emergency visit to the veterinary cost Mrs Sim $500.
She also took the day off work yesterday to syringe feed him, give him painkillers and make sure his wounds don’t get infected until his next visit to the veterinary on Thursday.
“I had to put all of the bed sheets in my four wheel drive to take him to the vet and they [owner of the two dogs] didn’t even come see the dog or say sorry,” she said.
“I haven’t stopped crying since yesterday.”
Mrs Sim said Mount Isa City Council local laws officers attended her property on Sunday to take a photo of the bloody gate and again yesterday to photograph her dog and the veterinary bill.
A spokesperson from the Mount Isa City Council said a local laws officer responded to the attack immediately after receiving the call.
“The property was inspected and the alleged offending dogs were put into custody of the local laws officer by their owner and are now being kept at the pound pending investigation,” the spokesperson said.
Mrs Sim said she wanted the owners of the dogs she’s alleged attacked her dog to pay for Bones’ medical treatment.
