The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service was called to put out the fire, which had been lit by Kai Paul Iso-Aho at 7.30pm on Saturday, July 26.
He was part of a group of juveniles involved in destroying the Mazda. Iso-Aho pleaded guilty to lighting an unauthorised fire.
Solicitor Warren Hunter said: “It was a group decision, including the owner of the vehicle, to somehow destroy it. I am unable to elicit any explanation as to why that happened.’’
Magistrate Rod Madsen sentenced Iso-Aho to 40 hours of community service, to be completed in six months.
The community service was also part of a drug possession charge that Iso-Aho had also pleaded guilty to.
Iso-Aho was found with nine cannabis seeds in Abel Smith Parade at 5.08am on August 7.
Mr Madsen said Iso-Aho had a lengthy criminal record with a large amount of fines that had not been paid.
The magistrate recalled that on July 21 Iso-Aho had also received a $5000 fine for failing to stop a motor vehicle.
A legal representativehad told the court the family would remove Iso-Aho from Mount Isa to keep him out of trouble, Mr Madsen said. But only a week later Iso-Aho lit the car.
“You must think you can come to court and tell a solicitor a heap of rubbish and I’d forget it all,” the magistrate told the defendant.
Mr Madsen said Iso-Aho’s conviction was not recorded because it could interfere with job prospects.
