Julia Creek paramedic Sam Brind is a self-described “proud parent” and said he was delighted with the glimpses of personality he had started to see in his six-month-old daughter, “Evie”.

“At the moment she’s found her laugh and her smile so when I’m playing with her she gives me a big smile or laugh and it’s fantastic, it melts your heart,” he cooed. 

“She’s a very curious personality so she can’t stand yet but she wants to push herself up on her feet. 

“She gets cranky if you leave her on her back because she wants to be up and looking out at the world.”

Although he’s rostered to work on Sunday, Mr Brind said sharing officer-in-charge duties at the local Queensland Ambulance Service station with his wife and fellow paramedic Jessika Brind meant that every week Evangeline had the full attention of at least one of her parents. 

“One of us works Thursday to Thursday and then the other will work the next Thursday to Thursday and for us that roster is sensational because there is always someone at home with Evie,” he said. 

“It’s not common for working dads who work full-time to be able to spend a week at a time with their young child.” 

On Sunday Mr Brind said he expected to have a nice meal after work with his wife and daughter before unwrapping his very first Father’s Day present. 

“I’m not sure what it is but I believe Evie, AKA Jess, has bought me a little Father’s Day pressie,” he laughed. 

“Hopefully Evie gives me lots of good smiles and giggles as well.”
