Eight people have so far been charged over the fight, which happened at the North Ipswich Reserve after a game between Norths Tigers and Ipswich Brothers.

Police said the brawl started when a large number of people tried to intervene while officers were trying to arrest a man for creating a disturbance.

More than 20 more officers were called to the scene to control the rowdy crowd.

One officer was hospitalised with facial injuries after allegedly being attacked by a man while putting him into a police van.

Police say the senior constable was punched in the face and then hit his head on a concrete gutter during the struggle.

Queensland Rugby League has been contacted for comment.

The general manager of the Brothers Leagues Club, which is separate to the football club, said the brawl occurred as crowds were starting to leave the game.

"I didn't know anything was happening until someone said there was a disturbance about 100 metres from the ground," Mark Hennelly said.

"I can't say what started it. All I know is what I've seen in the paper."

A 25-year-old Redbank Plains woman and a 23-year-old Kingston man have since been charged with two counts of serious assault police.

A 25-year-old Ellen Grove man, a 19-year-old Redbank Plains man, a 21-year-old Goodna man, a 25-year-old Riverview man, a 22-year-old Carina man and a 22-year-old North Booval man were charged with obstructing police.

The group are due to face Ipswich Magistrates Court on October 16.

Police have appealed for any witnesses or people with video footage to contact them.

Investigations into the brawl are continuing.
