Police believe the fight occurred about 4.50pm between two men who live in the same unit block on Margaret Street in Southport.
A 27-year-old man was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital after being injured during a fight with a 23-year-old man, police allege.
A police spokeswoman said there was no indication a weapon was used.
The 23-year-old has been charged with grievous bodily harm and is expected to face Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
