“The National Police Memorial pays tribute to Australian police officers who have been killed on duty or have died as a result of their duties since the advent of policing in Australia,’’ a police spokesman said.
‘‘It recognises the unique nature of police service and the dangers that police face in their daily pursuits.”
The Queensland Police Service record of deceased officers is split into three separate lists. All the officers on these lists died while on duty between the years 1859 and 2014, and will be remembered on National Police Remembrance Day on Monday, September 29.
The roll of honour includes the names of officers who were either killed as a direct consequence of the actions of an offender or offenders, or who died while attempting to save a life between 1867 and 2014.
The In Remembrance list includes the names of officers who died as a result of a traffic or industrial incident between 1859 and 2014.
The Died in Active Service list remembers those officers who were killed during World War I or who died soon after due to their wounds between 1915 and 1918.
These officers were on leave of absence from the Queensland Police Service.
