A well-known 16th Century example of such a person was English monarch Henry VIII. Famously married six times, his separation of England from the Roman Catholic Church was quite a rare achievement.
In the 21st century, it is Gary Ablett who floats above the human zoo.
Ablett, the VIII-All-Australian, is a footy one-off. Having long ago eclipsed the achievements of his legendary father, he remains a favourite to win a third Brownlow medal on Monday night.
Even by his dazzling standards this would be incredible, given he hasn't played a game since round 16.
Which would be great news for television viewers given it would substantially reduce the normally protracted telecast.
