Mayor Tony McGrady recently toured the Rivergum Estate at 7 Skewes Street in Miles End, and was delighted with the high quality finish of the housing and the investment commitment from the developers, Driftwood Mount Isa.
“The quality of this housing and the long-term vision of Driftwood, in terms of developing this entire estate, is a testament to the growth and future potential of Mount Isa,” Cr McGrady said.
After research released by the Queensland Treasury and Trade this year predicted Mount Isa’s population would grow consistently in the next 25 years, Cr McGrady said an increase in housing activity was a true indicator of the city’s movements.
“It is always exciting to see modern and innovative projects develop in Mount Isa and it will certainly benefit the region, and continue to encourage growth and residents as the city becomes more and more liveable,” he said.
With stage 1 complete and soon to be occupied, project manager Trent Rowell said there had been keen interest in the development.
“With three bedrooms and two bathrooms, all duplex apartments have a very decent yard, are pet friendly, and are comfortable to live in,” he said.
Mr Rowell said the project had used local tradies, who built the accommodation to include modern fixtures within a family friendly environment.
Once complete, the estate will comprise a mixture of duplexes, stand-alone houses, a communal recreation area with barbecue facilities, and a swimming pool.
Set on the former RSL site, the development will pay homage to the former Mount Isa RSL, with the sub-branch having naming rights for the five lanes in the estate.
