Ash Smith and Jacob Brennan were informed on Tuesday that their contracts would not be extended into 2015.

Both played mainly in the back half, as did full-back and captain Darren Glass, who retired earlier in the year.

The emergence of former Melbourne player Jamie Bennell from a knee reconstruction, plus the ability of Shannon Hurn to remain fit for the entire season, didn't help the pair, who played a total of just four games between them in 2014.

Defender Mitch Brown was also able to show versatilityon the type of player that he could mind and newcomers Xavier Ellis and Elliot Yeo spent some time running around in defence too.

One of the feel-good stories of the Eagles' season is that of Sam Butler, who produced an inspiring (and potentially career saving) second half of the year.

Butler averaged more than 20 touches in the last seven games for the Eagles - five of them wins, including a season high 32 possessions against Collingwood in round 20 (he collected one Brownlow Medal vote).

Butler played just one of the Eagles first 12 games under new coach Adam Simpson, but amazing form with the WAFL earned him an opportunity, mainly in defence, that he didn't let slip.

Smith joined the Eagles in 2008, taken at number 36 in the National Draft.

He played 45 games in five seasons, but only two in 2014.

Brennan joined the Eagles in 2010 as the club's first father and son selection, following Michael Brennan into West Coast's backline.

He also managed just two games this season, leaving him with 28 appearances for the club in three seasons.

Ruckman Dean Cox is the fourth change, the club's game record holder calling it quits after 14 seasons and 290 games.
