The young driver crashed into the back of a traffic control truck about 500 metres north of the Old Cleveland Road exit about 9.15pm on Tuesday.

It is understood the truck, which was fitted with flashing electronic signs, was travelling slowly on the motorway at the time as it approached a roadworks site.

The 24-year-old man, from Cannon Hill, died at the scene.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
