The Queensland series has 10 events on the calendar, with clubs north of the Tropic of Capricorn involved.
Triathletes Kit Rix and Adam Chapman will lead the charge, as both sit high up the rankings with only four races remaining.
Rix is under an injury cloud going into the event, which would assist Chapman’s title ambitions.
Saturday will see the junior aquathon held, as well 5-kilometre fun runs for both juniors and senior competitors.
On Sunday, the Double Trouble Triathlon takes place, with triathletes having to conquer the 500-metre swim, 15km bike ride and 3km swim.
If triathletes are serious enough, they will complete the course twice, hence the name Double Trouble.
Elite athletes Justine Callaghan, Lisa Ward, Tori Corner and Janelle Stuart Russell have all been training hard for the event, Isa Rats president Tonia Epstein said.
“A lot of our members have been training hard in recent weeks, so it will be interesting to see what times they get,” Epstein said.
“Janelle Stuart Russell has been running and riding all over town getting ready.
“Tori Corner had to stop all training for a couple of weeks due to minor surgery on her leg but she reckons she will be ready for this weekend.
“Michelle Lee was looking forward to competing this weekend too, but is still injured, so she will walk the 5km with Steph Hughes.”
After the event at Longreach’s Central Highland’s club, athletes turn their attention to Bowen and Hamilton Island, before Mount Isa hosts the event on the Australia Day long weekend next year.
