Almost 800 of Churchill's items have been painstakingly catalogued and prepared for sale before next year, which marks the 30th anniversary of the death of the man dubbed "The Little Master".

The family's wish is for the Clive Churchill memorabilia collection not to be sold off piecemeal and for the items to be displayed publicly, preferably in the Moore Park precinct, given the great fullback's love affair with the SCG.

The NRL had snubbed several approaches on behalf of the family until Fairfax Media revealed the situation last month. The NRL's head of commercial, Paul Kind, has since been in touch with the family and asked for the memorabilia not to be sold until the NRL has formed a position on each item.

"While we have made no guarantees at this stage, we are certainly interested in securing some of the items because Clive was, after all, one of the legends of the game," Kind said.

Churchill's son Rodney said he was pleased the NRL had acknowledged the collection and was hopeful of a suitable outcome.

AT THE MOVIES WITH DAVID TYRELL

David Tyrrell did not know a lot of people when he first moved to Sydney. So the South Sydney forward would watch just about every movie that came out. In doing so, he has become quite the critic after building a cult following with fans.

"I always get asked if I've watched something and I say whether it's good or crap. I'm not always right," he said. "On Twitter, I give a star rating out of five."

Tyrrell is a Superman buff, even getting his symbol tattooed onto his body. So what did he think of Russell Crowe's performance in the remake?

"Awesome, I loved that movie," he said. "We all got to be a part of it at the premier in Australia. I actually follow directors a bit. I like Christopher Nolan movies, The Prestige. I love Tarantino – Kill Bill and Inglorious Basterds and Django."

IN THE BLOOD

John Sutton is not the only talented sportsperson in the family. The South Sydney captain's sister, Joanne, was a professional netballer before injury prematurely ended her career.

"She used to play netball for the Swifts and down in Adelaide for the Thunderbirds," Sutton said. "She knows a bit more than some other people about playing with pressure. She'll be coming down from Adelaide for the [NRL decider]."

FRANK COPS IT SWEET

Frank Pritchard almost broke down when he saw this. In the ultimate surprise during grand-final week, Pritchard's manager, Mario Tartak, commissioned this mural outside the Cake It Away franchise at Merrylands.

The Canterbury captain was lost for words when he saw it for the first time on Wednesday.

MOSSOP MOVE MURMURS

St George Illawarra have expressed interest in Parramatta's Lee Mossop in an attempt to bolster their forward pack. The English international is contracted to the Eels for next season but the blue and golds are prepared to release him to free up salary-cap space.

Injuries restricted Mossop to just three games in his NRL debut season and it would not surprise if he asked for a release to return home or join a rival Australian club.

BULLDOGS POACH SIBLINGS, FOR NOW

Newcastle are furious Canterbury got under their guard to sign Sione, Chanel and Pat Mata'utia, arguably the most talented siblings in the game.

However, the Knights have only themselves to blame, as they left it too late to get to the negotiating table. Bulldogs officials identified the brothers as the next big things well before Sione and Chanel made their NRL debuts, and started talking to their management in April.

By the time their Newcastle counterparts opened talks they were already well on their way to stardom and down the track with the Dogs.

The Mata'utia's have agreed to terms with "The Family Club" but the Knights have up until round 13 of next season to provide a better counter offer.

TEEN WHIZ SNUBS KIWIS

Parramatta sensation Tepai Moeroa has knocked back a New Zealand Test jersey for this year's Four Nations tournament because of his desire to play State of Origin.

When Kiwi officials contacted the teenager's management, team Moeroa thought it was to sound him out about representing the Junior Kiwis.

However, they wanted the rising rookie to be part of their senior squad for the season-ending internationals. Moeroa was born in the Cook Islands, spent his early years in New Zealand and came to Australia at age five. However, he will play for the Blues and Kangaroos if given the opportunity at representative level.

"I could go New Zealand but I always wanted to play Origin," he said.

SBW'S NEED FOR SPEED

Sonny Bill Williams wasted no time getting into shape for his next big challenge, his switch back to rugby. Rather than wallowing in the pain of a finals loss to South Sydney, SBW joined Parramatta's Will Hopoate in a session with sprint guru Roger Fabri.

This pic, taken from Fabri's Instagram account, suggests Williams will take some stopping, even with two extra players on the field.

CARNEY IN SAFE HANDS

So the "joie de vivre" in France has lured Roosters forward Remi Casty back to the Catalan Dragons after spending one season here but still with a year to play on his contract.

Well, helping the Frenchman make the call was the carrot of a four-year contract, too. But anyone who knows Casty, knows that his attachment with the French club is deep-rooted.

Hence he was happy to offer NRL problem child Todd Carney a quick heads-up of what to expect in the south of France when he plays for the Dragons.

Asked recently by colleague Rupert Guinness about what the sacked Shark can expect, Casty said: "They won't be too focused on what's happened here.

"The media is less and concentrated more on the games and he will feel not pressure [but] a lot of love from the public. It will be a good experience for him. It will be good.

"Everyone will expect a lot of him, but not for the negative, only positive and as a player. The French culture is where we are like a family at the team. We often eat together. We are very close.

"Australians who come often embrace the culture."

Jason Taylor will be the third consecutive former St Gregory's College, Campbelltown, student to be appointed head coach of the Wests Tigers. Previous coaches Tim Sheens and Mick Potter were former students of the school that has also produced talents such as James Tedesco, Ryan Hoffman and Trent Barrett. Coach of the century Jack Gibson was also a student of the college.

LULIA DEFIES NECK BREAK

Keith Lulia won't let a broken neck end his NRL career. There were fears the Wests Tigers utility may not play again after suffering the injury against the Cowboys in August. However, the much of the damage has healed naturally and Lulia has been told he will again be able to strap on the boots. Journeyman prop Richie Fa'aoso is another who has came back from what appeared to be a career-ending neck injury. He will plug the void left by Fuifui Moimoi at Parramatta from next year.
