The government plans to privatise the energy market if it wins the next election as part of its "Strong Choices" policy.

Since announcing its asset sales plan, the government has slowly announced its plans for the money the long-term leases will raise, outside of debt reduction.

On the weekend, it was the removal of the solar bonus scheme from power bills, estimated to make up about 6 per cent of bills, with the government covering the cost from its newly announced cost of living fund.

On Monday, Mr McArdle announced it would also help to increase market interest in the power assets.

"Yes it would - the simple reason is this: if you deduct a cost from the price of operating a business, it then would increase the potential capacity to sell that [business]," he said.

"It would increase the attractiveness of the business, there is no question about that. But at the end of the day, this is about relief for Queenslanders.

"The solar bonus scheme was adding large licks of dollars every year to power bills. We have taken that out, the government will now deal with that outside the network charges."

Mr McArdle said the government was not yet finished improving issues within his portfolio, which also takes in water.

He and Treasurer Tim Nicholls are due to make another announcement later on Monday.

"Well the issue of power and power costs is an ongoing concern," he said.

"The issue of water charges is of course a separate issue that we'll deal with as well.

"Both these charges derive from a failure to plan that we are now working through. Solutions in regard to these very hard and difficult issues can not be found overnight, it needs to be worked through thoroughly and comprehensively."
