Speaking to Fairfax Radio 4BC Mornings, Ms Jones said she wanted to run a toned-down grassroots campaign, after admitting that the 2012 campaign became a "circus".

Ms Jones was a Labor minister at the last election and Premier Campbell Newman was leading the LNP from outside parliament.

The Ashgrove contest was most-watched in the state, and was marred with allegations of personal attacks on families and an incident where Mr Newman refused to shake Ms Jones's hand at a public debate.

Ms Jones said she was moving on.

"From here, I hit the ground running," she said.

"I'm going to be on the ground talking to talking to locals one-on-one. I'm not going to be bussing in people from outside to come and stand on every street corner. I will be talking to locals one on one, hearing their concerns and why [they are dissatisfied with the government].

Ms Jones said she did not always plan on running again, but "there was no other job that I loved doing more than being the member for Ashgrove".

"I know what a tough campaign this is going to be," she said.

"I am going to be up against the Premier and the entire LNP hierarchy.

"My campaign is going to be based on volunteers so it is going to be a tough campaign, but I am up for it and I know through hard work and I think listening to the concerns that people have raised with me about the newman government over the last two-and-a-half years, that there is a mood for change.

"... I believe my family and the people of Ashgrove deserve better than what we've got under the Newman government. I felt that in Ashgrove we deserve to have a real contest and one that would be a contest about ideas … I think everyone knows I grew up locally. I could have moved somewhere else and try and gone for a safe seat but that's not who I am. This is my community and I will be fighting to ensure that we get the best local representative, which I believe is me."

Mr Newman said he believed his record since his election as the Ashgrove MP spoke for itself.

"Over the last two-and-a-half years I have done two things: I have been a premier actively involved in getting this state going -creating jobs, revitalising frontline services, making it a safer place for people to raise their families - and I have been a strong local member," he said.

"I have got a track record around this electorate that is better than the former member achieved in six years and yet I have only been the member for two and a half years."

A date for the election is yet to be set.
