After Liam Pickering made it clear that Boyd disliked living in Sydney, wanted to come back to Melbourne and would demand a trade to the Bulldogs at the end of next year if it did not happen this week, the Giants reiterated their  stance on their No.1 draft pick.

"The Giants welcome comments by Tom Boyd's manager that he will honour his contract with the club," said a GWS statement, released after Pickering explained Boyd's position in a radio interview.

Added chief executive David Matthews: "Given we have said Tom will not be traded under any circumstances we are pleased that any ambiguity has been removed and we look forward to welcoming Tom back to training next month and preparing for the 2015 season."

Pickering said that Boyd – who has accepted a huge offer from the Bulldogs averaging out to more than $1 million per year over at least six years – was committed to leaving GWS.

In other trade news by late Tuesday:

■Essendon and Port Adelaide continued to discuss a deal for Paddy Ryder, with the Power officially adding pick 37 to the deal, as touted in The Age on Monday. The Power says it will no longer make any players available.

■The Power may have to sacrifice Daniel Gorringe should the Bombers accept pick 37, with Gorringe likely in that case to remain with the Suns.

■Mitch Hallahan appears Gold Coast-bound, after realising that he may continue to struggle to break into Hawthorn's midfield. The clubs spoke on Tuesday but didn't get far in initial discussions.

■The Dayne Beams to Brisbane deal is as good as done, with the Pies to receive picks  five, 25 and Jack Crisp and Collingwood to send a fourth round pick back to the Lions. A subsequent three-club deal sending Mitch Clark to Geelong, Heritier Lumumba to Melbourne and Travis Varcoe to  Collingwood was only held up by some final tweaking to Varcoe's contract.

■Mark Whiley is happy to join Carlton with GWS teammate Kristian Jaksch and that deal – which will see Carlton swap pick 7 for the Giants' 19 - will go through so long as Whiley passes a medical on Wednesday.

■Richmond was forced to abandon a trade for Jack Trengove, after scans ordered by the club while assessing the Melbourne midfielder revealed a new crack in his navicular bone.

■Shane Biggs appeared on his way to the Bulldogs from Sydney, either via a trade or as a delisted free agent.

■Rhys Stanley is considering an offer from Geelong, with the Cats planning to send pick 21 to St Kilda for the ruckman-forward.

Pickering couldn't see any way GWS could retain Boyd beyond next year and described the idea of him being forced to honour his contract as "ludicrous", given the Giants' commitment to Ryan Griffen. While the Bulldogs have been equally adamant about not trading captain  Griffen unless it is for Boyd, the Giants hold valuable top 10 draft picks that may ultimately appeal.

The Giants know Boyd's value is unlikely to drop next year given his standing as one of the competition's promising key forwards, and that more trade options could then present.

"He doesn't want to live in western Sydney anymore. He wants to come home, and you know what? He's going to come home," Pickering told AFL Trade Radio.

"Whether it's this year or next year, that's what will happen. As we sit right now, he'll be requesting a trade to the Western Bulldogs at the end of next season.

"I think it would be a ludicrous situation to have a player playing for the Giants who wants to play for the Bulldogs, and a player playing for the Bulldogs who wants to play for the Giants, when there's a mechanism to get the deal done."

The Power says its offer of picks 17 and 37 is the final one it will make for Ryder. The club Bombers have already knocked back better offers for the ruckman, who will take the Bombers to the AFL grievance tribunal if not traded.

Essendon does not hold a second-round pick due to the club's draft bans and may need to use a third round selection on either Giants ruckman Jonathan Giles, who wants to join the club, or Adam Cooney. Cooney could also join North Melbourne, but the Bulldogs midfielder had not reached a decision late on Tuesday.

A trade sending Biggs to the Bulldogs and Liam Jones fell over on Tuesday, with the Bulldogs wanting more for Jones. Sydney would have received pick 46, with the Dogs taking Biggs and 58. The Bulldogs are now planning to take the Swans rookie as a delisted free agent, while the Blues are saying they can secure Jones in the pre-season draft.

The Swans would like another pick in the draft, so that they have the opportunity to bundle up two selections and move a little higher up the order. The club was also hopeful St Kilda would produce a pick for Tim Membrey rather than walk the second-year player to the pre-season draft.
