ONE–hundred and fifty years of policing was recognised when 27 Mount Isa officers were presented with awards to show their bravery, service and dedication in the Queensland Police Service. Acting Assistant Commissioner Paul Taylor came from Townsville to present the awards.

“Policing can be both a challenging and rewarding career,” he said.
There were 15 different awards presented throughout the ceremony to recognise the officers’ commitment to the community and their duty to protect and serve.
Awards were presented to:
Superintendent Russell Miller – National Emergency Medal for rendering sustained service during a nationally-significant emergency within Australia.
Sergeant Phillip Bridge – National Police Service Medal that represents a police officer’s past and future commitment to give ethical and diligent service. A minimal of 15 years’ service is required to qualify for the service medal.
Senior Constable Michael Molloy – National Medal for long service in organisations who perform and fulfil the primary function and meet relevant criteria.
Senior Sergeant Colin Henderson, Sergeant Shaune English, Senior Constable Damon Bishop – National Medal Clasp Set is awarded every 10 years of service after the initial 15 year medal.
Senior Sergeant Graham Boyd – Australian Federal Police Bravery Medal for performing in the discharge of their duty, an act of bravery of a high order placing themselves at substantial risk of personal injury.
Sergeant Heath Thompson, Detective Acting Sergeant Amanda Jeppesen, Senior Constable Desmond Brosnan, Plain Clothes Senior Constable Peta Jenkins, Mr David Boyce – Queensland Police Service Medal for members or former member who has accrued 10 years continuous full-time qualifying service, or the equivalent and is a fit and proper person to receive the award.
Superintendent Russell Miller – 40 Year Clasp to the Queensland Police Service Medal.
Sergeant Shaune English – 25 Years Clasp to the Queensland Police Service Medal.
Sergeant Mark Mulligan, Senior Constable Micheal Molloy, Constable Gavin Schlencker – 15 Year Clasp to the Queensland Police Service Medal. Received for every five years after the initial awarding of the 10 year Medal.
Senior Constable Damon Bishop – Commissioner’s Certificate (Notable Action) is rewarded to a member that performs a significant act when placed in a potentially hazardous situation.
Senior Constable Desmond Brosnan, Constable Cristian Cajas Melendez – Assistant Commissioner’s Certificate Operational.
Senior Constable Wade Jackson, Constable Glenn Angel, Constable Cass Cowling, Plain Clothes Katrina Derrick, Plain Clothes Constable Jarrod Horne, Constable Jeremy Strudwick, Constable Aimee Wolski – District Officer Certificate.
Constable Glenn Angel, Cristian Cajas Melendez, Constable Sarah Farrell – Confirmation of appointment Certificate.
Sergeant Kylie Lewis – Queensland Police Service Lantern Award for Excellence Certificate.
Northern Region Award – Senior Sergeant Col Henderson, Sergeant Cath Purcell, Acting Senior Constable Hayley Tuuta, Ms Janet Blair (Indigenous Coordination Council), Ms Liz Touke (Young People Ahead).
