Stephen Silvagni is understood to be contemplating a period away from the game, having secured Greater Western Sydney three top-10 draft picks, along with a heavily discounted Ryan Griffen and Joel Patfull after a dramatic trade period.

With the GWS board set to meet on Tuesday to debate a minor restructure of its recruiting and football division, club chief Dave Matthews said the Giants were working through a number of scenarios with specific interest in its Canberra market and GWS academy.

"We are looking at a range of possibilities and nothing is certain at this stage," he said.

Silvagni is one of four candidates targeted by Carlton for a new list management position. The club's premiership champion and AFL full-back of the century remains close friends with Blues president Mark LoGiudice, although a position at his old club could prove an issue given the Silvagnis have three boys. The eldest, Jack, is expected to be drafted in 12 months.

St Kilda football boss  Chris Pelchen is not a candidate for the Carlton job despite holding talks with chief executive Steve Trigg last month. While Pelchen's future at the Saints remains unclear, the Blues are understood to have contacted St Kilda and assured the club it has not made an approach to Pelchen.

The prevailing view is that the contracted Silvagni - his GWS deal has at least one more year to run - could walk away from the AFL and take an extended break.
