Billy Elliot and The Full Monty are set against the backdrop of communities hit by the economic policies of Margaret Thatcher's Government.
The latest offering is PRIDE based on the true story of a Welsh mining community struggle during the 1984 miners' strike.
Help and hope arrives in the form of a group of gay and lesbian activists who decide to raise money for the miners.
The film stars Bill Nighy (Love Actually, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, Notes on a Scandal, and The Constant Gardener), Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake, Harry Potter, The Awakening, Freedom Writers, Nanny McPhee), and Dominic West (The Wire, 300, Hannibal Rising, John Carter).
The film – released in Australian cinemas on October 30 – was the Closing Night film in the Directors' Fortnight section of the 67th Cannes Film Festival.
