It’s a therapeutic investment run by North West Community Rehabilitation.
Its participants are people who may have had a stroke or have a progressive neurological condition such as Parkinson’s disease, project manager Sarah Jackson said at a planting ceremony late last week.
“For some of our participants, gardening can be an important part of their daily physical activity and so their goals may include being able to get back out to their garden,” she said.
“This can be challenging if they have lost the ability to use their arm the way they used to or even to be able to walk outside to tend the garden.
‘‘Being able to practise gardening in a supported environment where the garden beds are raised and on a paved surface will help our participants to get back to doing the things they love.”
The Rotary Club of Mount Isa donated funds towards the construction of the beds and purchase of plants, as part of the club’s community focus.
“As always we are thankful for the support from service clubs and the community. In this instance, our thanks go to Rotary,” Ms Jackson said.
