The trainees were part of a 10-week training course and paid work placement to develop their skills in civil construction, surface extraction and metalliferous underground mining.
Participants from Atherton, Burketown, Cairns, Dajarra, Longreach, Mornington Island, Mount Isa, Normanton and Townsville took part in the program.
Trainees spent 10 weeks out at Camooweal for training, and if successful are offered a further 12 weeks’ training.
There are two programs held every year between June and December, and February and June.
The Myuma Group managing director Colin Saltmere said they had been doing this for eight years and it was all about their education.
“In those 10 weeks they get training to further their education and training,” he said.
“They will spend another 12 weeks at Glencore and then they will have to show their hard work to stay on full time.”
