Translink said all bus routes within the CBD, South Brisbane and surrounding suburbs would be affected, with five routes not operating between November 14 and 16.

They are the Route 61 Maroon CityGlider, Route 66 UQ Lakes to Woolloongabba, Route 139 Sunnybank Hills to UQ Lakes, Route 169 Garden City to UQ Lakes and the Woolloongabba-UQ Lakes shuttle.

Passengers on nearly all other affected routes will travel to and from designated transport hubs on the outskirts of the city. Commuters will then need to board trains, ferries or shuttle buses to get to the CBD.

The hubs will be set up at Fortitude Valley, Woolloongabba, Spring Hill, Toowong, Milton and at the Boggo Road busway station.

"If you're travelling into the city in the evening, please be prepared for delays and for longer walks than usual as your bus may not be able to drop you off at your regular stop," Translink said on its website.

The busway network between RCH Herston and Woolloongabba stations will be closed from 7pm on Thursday November 13 and remain shut during the long weekend.

Transport Minister Scott Emerson encouraged commuters to visit the Translink website to plan their journey before using public transport during the long weekend.

"I thank all passengers for their patience during what will be an important event for Queensland," he said.

Mr Emerson said ferry and train travel would be the best public transport options during G20, except for the South Brisbane train station which will be closed.

Regular bus and ferry routes will run to a public holiday timetable on November 14.

Translink said "every effort" would be made to return Brisbane's transport network back to normal for the Monday morning peak on November 17.

G20 transport hubs

The major transport hubs will be located at:

Boggo Road busway station - with bus shuttles operating every 5-10 minutes to either South Bank or Herschel Street in the CBD via the Captain Cook Bridge

Fortitude Valley - with a bus shuttle to the CBD via Ann and Turbot Streets

Woolloongabba - where you will be able to transfer onto route 200 or 204 services that will be diverted over the Story Bridge into the Fortitude Valley hub

Spring Hill, Upper Edward Street - which is located within walking distance of the city and Central station

Toowong - where you can transfer to a train

West End - which is located within walking distance of the city (to travel to the city West End residents might prefer to catch a bus to the West End ferry terminal and catch a CityCat to the city).
