Carl Nicholson now has a chance to nominate in the event and enjoy his fishing, something that he has been doing for more than 20 years.
“I started fishing in my teens more than 20 years ago, when I lived in Brisbane,” he said.
“I fished all around Brisbane when I first started and have fished quite extensively in the North West for the past six years.”
The 34-year-old is excited about the prospects for this year’s Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic.
“Right now is some of the best fishing I’ve experienced since I’ve been here, with the sheer volume of barramundi in the lake,” Nicholson said.
“Fishing changes so much each year, but with the low lake levels presently, it can be a benefit for fishers as there is more fish per acre of water.
“If the last couple of weeks are any representation, this weekend should be very interesting.”
Nicholson will compete against Bill ‘‘Barra Bill’’ Rigby, who has been a regular winner over the years, as well as Peter Fricke, who fishes with his twin daughters.
“I’m very keen to just be competing this weekend, which will let me enjoy my fishing more extensively,” Nicholson said.
“Being competitive, nothing would make me happier than sinking my hook into a big barramundi.
“Having recently won the Karumba Gulf Glory fishing competition, I’m hoping to build on that.
Competition gets under way at 6pm tonight before resuming tomorrow.
