The Diamonds posted their 19th consecutive win with a 54-47 victory in the second Test against England in Canberra on Wednesday night to finish their year’s schedule without a loss for the first time since 2002.

However, coach Lisa Alexander says the job is far from finished, with the 2015 World Cup in Sydney and a 20-year-old record in their sights.

Under the glory days of coach Joyce Brown, Australia won 37 successive matches between 1990 and 1994.

The current 19 wins in a row puts them fourth on the Aussie record books.

‘‘We haven’t quite cracked that yet but she [Brown] is my mentor and one of my biggest supporters,’’ Alexander said.

‘‘I figure I’ve got a great person to learn off and I know that she’s always keen for me to keep winning.’’

As well as the England series, the Diamonds collected the Constellation Cup with a maiden sweep of the four-Test series against world No.2 New Zealand.

They also won the Commonwealth Games title in Glasgow, wresting it from the Silver Ferns in the final after a 12-year absence.

Alexander said the gold medal was the most satisfying achievement.

‘‘The Comm Games gold medal was just amazing,’’ she said.

‘‘I can’t describe the emotion and elation at the end of that, it was unbelievable.’’

While they allowed themselves some celebrations following the final Test win, Alexander said they had already had a season review.

‘‘We’ve been thinking back to the enormity of the achievement,’’ she said.

‘‘But we’ve got to keep focused on improvement and what we need to do [to win the World Cup] and we’ve already talked about that.’’

She said arch rival New Zealand would bounce back strongly for the World Cup after a disappointing year, while England and Jamaica, which are now guided by former Australian coach Jill McIntosh, would also challenge.

Wing attack Madi Robinson capped an outstanding year in Canberra by winning her third most valuable player award in Australia’s last six Tests.
