Players unwanted by one club are more often finding their way to the next, with the introduction of two new teams also diluting the talent pool.

The window for clubs to sign delisted free agents opens this week, and there is a group of players entering the prime 23 to 27 age bracket that is hoping clubs are willing to take a punt on their potential.

Fairfax Media takes a look at some of the players delisted since September that could play a role in another team next season as clubs analyse their lists ahead of the draft period.

Taylor Hunt

Delisted from: Geelong

West Coast has shown interest in the Cat who seemed unlucky to be delisted last week. It was only 12 months ago that the soon-to-be 24-year-old was offered a three-year deal by Brisbane to leave Geelong. A former third-round pick, Hunt played 63 games for Geelong but only seven last season. He played 15 and 21 games in seasons 2013 and 2012, earning a reputation as a midfield shut-down player. Shoulder and groin injuries have slowed him down over the past 18 months. The Eagles were silent during the trade period, content to go to the draft, but are still looking for players at the right age.

Kane Lucas

Delisted from: Carlton

The former No.12 pick is considered one of the most talented of those cut loose since September. An elite runner, Lucas showed promise in his first season back in 2010, but played just 10 more games under Brett Ratten as his form and confidence dropped. He has also battled injuries, playing just seven games this year, backing up from 17 in Mick Malthouse's first year. His ball use can let him down at times. He had discussions with both Western Australian clubs during the trade period, and it's understood Lucas is open to the idea of returning home.

Mitch Robinson

Delisted from: Carlton

The big question mark hanging over the tough midfielder is whether he has learnt the lessons of the off-field behaviour that landed him in trouble at Carlton. His decision-making, disposal and discipline on the field can sometimes be issues, too, but there is no questioning his bravery and hardness. Perhaps being put up for trade and then finally being delisted will serve as a wake-up call, and who knows what might happen if a club takes a punt on him. The 25-year-old attracted only slight interest during trade week, but perhaps clubs knew they could get him for free if they waited. Linked to Brisbane, Robinson would bring with him 100 games worth of experience.

Shaun McKernan

Delisted from: Adelaide

The 24-year-old has vowed his best football is still ahead of him. McKernan says he has learnt plenty from James Podsiadly last season, and believes he is entering the age where big men start to bloom. The 196cm forward has faced questions about his consistency and on-field aggression, playing just 34 games in five seasons at Adelaide, including 16 in 2011. McKernan says he is happy to play at any club, and has shown glimpses of his potential. There could be a club willing to take him as cover for more recognised key forwards, while also trying to develop him.

Sam Blease

Delisted from: Melbourne

Blease could be a good test of the debate surrounding Melbourne's recent record of drafting and developing players. Was the speedster a good choice at pick No.17 in the 2008 draft, but just wasn't given the best chance at the Demons? We will only know if another club gives him that second chance and, to that end, the 23-year-old has attracted interest from clubs including Geelong and Hawthorn. He kicked 19 goals in 16 games in his best season at Melbourne in 2012,  but played just two games this year.

Matthew Dick

Delisted from: Sydney

The soon-to-be 20-year-old could be in line for a birthday present this week, with Carlton understood to be keen on him. The Blues have already done major work on their list and it's believed they are after one more player to add to their list before the draft. Dick, a 187cm defender, wasn't able to break into the Swans strong backline, although there would be greater opportunities to cement a spot at Carlton, with the Blues yet to find a settled defensive unit.
