Despite not kicking a single goal, the Question Marks managed to score four tries and defeat Keas 20-5.
“It was a funny old game, with both teams making plenty of unforced errors in the early exchanges of the match,” Cloncurry captain Hamish Chrisp said.
“I know we started really slow, as we were still trying to inject some of our newer players into the line-up and build some cohesion.
“But we eventually got going towards the end of the match and were rewarded with some points.”
With numerous key forwards missing for the Question Marks, Chrisp hailed the determined that his side showed on defence.
“Keas had plenty of chances of score but our defence stood up and only allowed one try all match, which was fantastic,” he said.
“With our strong defence, it allowed the returning Michael Phillips to play his natural game and relieve some of the pressure off inside back Liam Giudes.
“Kieron Weller and Joshua Elliot also had outstanding games, backing up from their strong performances two weeks ago.”
Keas coach Nick Ngatai said he was proud of his team’s performance.
“We were short on substitutes and had some key players in key positions missing, which hurt us towards the end of the match,” he said.
“Not to mention we were trying to incorporate a couple of new players into the side for the first time.
“Although we did start the match of strong, scoring the first try, we ran out of gas at the end of the match.
“With experienced players like Kaine Manihera, we lacked the composure at key moments to take advantage of our chances.
“Considering that Cloncurry’s nucleus have been together for a while now, there’s definitely some positives to take from the match.
“I thought open side flanker Ace Anderson played unreal, as did Captain Reagan Tamati.”
