Tenders have now closed for a stunning and magical castle up for grabs south of Brisbane at 54 Gardiner Road, Waterford.

Although more than 600 people have been through the enchanted and mysterious house, a buyer is yet to put in a magical offer that will seal the deal.

Harcourts M1 agent Julie Andrews said negotiations were still taking place with a number of interested parties, but the property would most likely sell to a developer, keen to make the most of the 40,000-square-metre block.

Despite the castle attracting worldwide attention when it was listed in August, thanks to a Youtube 'zombie' video that went viral, along with a Facebook page, Mrs Andrews said she was still waiting for that special buyer to give the property a spruce-up with a wave of their wand.

"We haven't been able to snag that one eccentric old man with a bottomless pocket of gold coins, who can throw income at getting the property certified and registered," she said.

"That would have been nice and ideal and very magical and a fantasy but in reality, it's really targeted towards developers."

The crooked castle was constructed in the 1980s by local builder Brian Rumble.

After letting his imagination run wild, Mr Rumble called his prized possession Castle Rumble. It has five bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open fireplace and stunning views towards Mt Coot-tha and Mt Glorious.

But the main attractions of this Harry Potter-like house are the countless timber carvings, drop-down timber chandeliers, colourful glass windows and mysterious chambers.

"It started off as a hobby and a builder's yard and it wasn't intended for anything else but then his vision got bigger and bigger, so it led to it becoming a local identity," Mrs Andrews said.

"Everything is handmade and recycled. I can't think of the total amount of hours it took to build, but it's very impressive."

However, unlike the famous story of Rumpelstiltskin, where straw is turned into gold, Logan City Council wouldn't have a bar of it.

The house was built without plans, reports or council consent, and was therefore never recognised as a "liveable dwelling".

The upper levels have to be blocked off during open inspections, which draw dozens of curious locals each week, due to safety concerns.

"It used to be a destination for weddings and functions and corporate Christmas parties," Mrs Andrews said.

"Then council shut it down because it didn't meet safety regulations."

But let's not lose hope for our knight in shining armour just yet. Fairytales always have twists and turns, so perhaps someone will come through not at the witching hour but the 11th hour, with that surprise sum of cash.
It would be perfect timing, just before Halloween arrives – and surely you'd have to be a pumpkinhead to not restore this amazing piece of history.

"All the locals want it to happen and Rumble secretly wanted it to happen," Mrs Andrew said.

"There would be nothing better than to find that equally eccentric family out there."
