The former cruise ship entertainer and author was jailed on Monday for at least two months over a barrage of abusive text messages he sent to Ms Robinson, who fell to her death from a Gold Coast apartment balcony on January 29, 2013.
Ten minutes before Ms Robinson, 21, plunged from the balcony she received a text which read: "You're more interested in TV, food and everything else but your partner. That's why everything's ruined. Your priorities are f***ed up".
The pair had known each other for a year, but only lived together for 38 days.
During the court case, police said they couldn't prove Shearin's messages directly caused Ms Robinson's death but argued they caused her great distress, according to the Gold Coast Bulletin.
Ms Robinson, who was legally blind, had a passion for dancing and cheerleading.
Her long-term goal was to be a dancer on a cruise ship, and given Shearin's experience in the industry, she was drawn to him despite the fact he was about 20 years older.
Ms Robinson's aunt Janine Mackney said he "promised her the world".
Ms Mackney strongly denied claims made by Shearin in court that in the weeks leading up to her death Ms Robinson was depressed and suicidal.
"She was a beautiful young lady," Ms Mackney told Fairfax Media.
"She only just turned 21. She had the world at her feet and was just starting to blossom. She was sweet-natured and kind. She'd never argue back to anyone. She was just a sweet soul."
In court on Monday, 18 of Ms Robinson's friends and family sat in the Southport Magistrates Court public gallery to watch Shearin's sentencing hearing.
Ms Mackney said the group of supporters weren't expecting Shearin to be sent to jail, and were ecstatic when the term was imposed.
"We screamed and cried and clapped. There was a lot of emotion for sure," she said.
Before his fall from grace, Shearin travelled the world as a cruise ship entertainer and even penned a book called All At Sea - Confessions of a neurotic cruise ship singer.
Shearin's Amazon.com author biography boasts that "there really is no more well rounded entertainer hailing from Australia these days".
And in his book, Shearin wrote of his "incredible life" at sea.
"I am a genuine, honest, caring, loving and passionate man who would do anything for anyone," he wrote.
Since pleading guilty to harassing Ms Robinson, other women have alleged they were also harassed by Shearin.
Ms Mackney urged any potential victims to come forward.
"He's in jail for at least two months. This is their chance to speak up and go to Southport police and say exactly what has happened to them because we need to put him away for much longer," she said.
On Monday a six-month sentence was imposed, four months of which was suspended.
If released early, he will be placed on a $2000, three-year good behaviour bond. Part of the conditions will include not contacting Ms Robinson's family or publishing anything about them online.
The day before he was sent to prison, Shearin couldn't resist delivering a parting shot.
"Rumours are started by haters, spread by fools and accepted by idiots," he posted on Facebook.
