Then andBeyond set about not just renovating, but rebuilding it. Nine months later, the spectacular Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge mark 2 has been unveiled. With architecture inspired by African wildlife, the main lodge and eight suites better the previous facility on space, comfort, views and interface with the amazing natural environment afforded by a private concession over a vast stretch of land adjacent to the wildlife-rich Moremi Game Reserve.
In June this year, the Okavango Delta was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site and in line with that as well as andBeyond's motto of "Care of the Land, Care of the Wildlife, Care of the People", Sandibe has been designed with a light footprint and a heavy focus on sustainability and efficiency. Sandibe now boasts a combined solar electricity and hot water system capacity that produces more than 200 thousand kilowatt-hours a year, reducing the need for generators and saving the lodge the use of 67,000 litres of diesel a year.
And still, the andBeyond stand of luxury accommodation and top-class cuisine is, well, beyond and the wildlife experience superlative. Big game sightings combine with spectacular scenery, tranquility and unique experiences such as speedboat exploration on the delta.
