WITHIN hours of descending into Mount Isa on Wednesday the musicians from the Queensland Symphony Orchestra were practising with students in preparation for the Mount Isa Gala Concert.

Queensland Orchestra’s oboe player Sarah Meagher said the main advice they would give to musical students was to practise consistently.
“The more practise you do the more fun it gets, it becomes a self-fulfilling thing,” Ms Meagher said.
“The idea is you can practise so you can play with other people.”
It was more fun to have the ability to perform with others, she said.
French horn player Malcolm Stewart seemed alarmed when he overheard Spinifex State College year 8 student Louise Eussen contemplate giving up the horn for the tuba.
“Don’t do that, don’t give away the horn,” Stewart said.
“The horn players always get the jobs.”
Stewart studied music in Switzerland and has travelled across the world during his musical career.
The Mount Isa Gala Concert will start at 5pm on Saturday at the Mount Isa Civic Centre, and is a free event.
