A 25-year-old Southport man is scheduled to appear in Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, stealing and failure to appear in accordance with an undertaking.
It will be alleged that the security guard asked the younger man to leave a light rail vehicle that had stopped at the Gold Coast University Hospital.
The man allegedly refused to comply with the security guard's directions and, when asked again to move-on, assaulted the security guard causing him to fall to the ground.
It will be further alleged that the man continued to assault the security guard when he was on the ground, before removing his security identification and leaving the scene on-foot.
The security guard, aged 55 years, was treated at the Gold Coast University Hospital for injuries to his face and head.
The incident follows another involving a train guard in Brisbane a month ago, resulting in a racist tirade that went viral on the internet.
