Mines Minister Andrew Cripps presented at the Mining Resources Convention in Brisbane on Wednesday, listing the ResourcesQ workshops as one of the positives steps the government has taken to improve the resources sector.
The Mount Isa workshop was held on April 17, with stakeholders including local mayors across the North West Minerals Provinces and representatives from companies including Mount Isa Mines and CuDeco.
Other workshops were held in Cairns, Gladstone, Roma, Emerald and Brisbane.
“From my own participation I can say these were very positive constructive conversations that advanced the concept and scope of the preferred future for Queensland’s resources sector,” Mr Cripps said.
“ResourcesQ will position Queensland to compete on the world stage, an ambitious goal I admit, but as this is a vision and strategy co-developed and owned by government and industry, I believe that together, we can achieve it.”
Mr Cripps said Queensland could be the fourth leading exporter of liquefied natural gas by 2018.
The state remained highly prospective for coal, minerals and petroleum resources, Mr Cripps said.
“Queensland’s resources sector has high prospectivity with extensive opportunities for exploration, it’s close to major export markets and has strong infrastructure networks,” Mr Cripps said.
“It has an innovative supply chain and a skilled workforce.”
