A third man has now been charged with attempted murder over Phillip Koklas' fall from an Upper Roma Street apartment complex on September 14.
Timothy St John, 29, faced Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday on 17 charges, including the attempted murder of Mr Koklas and four counts of kidnapping.
Mr St John represented himself in the dock of the arrest court, where he said told Magistrate Christine Roney he would contest the charges.
Police allege Mr Koklas fell from the fifth-floor balcony of the apartment complex after he was allegedly kidnapped by Mr St John and another man, Michael Lappin.
Mr Koklas was taken to hospital in a critical condition with severe head injuries and broken bones. He was discharged from hospital on October 16.
Fairfax Media understands investigators will allege Mr Koklas, now aged 29, was kidnapped from his Wishart home early on September 14 because of an unpaid debt.
He was allegedly punched in the face before being taken away by Mr St John and Mr Lappin, while his father and girlfriend looked on.
It is then understood Mr Koklas was driven in an SUV to the Upper Roma Street apartment complex which was occupied by some of Mr Koklas' friends.
Police claim the two kidnappers held Mr Koklas and three people in the apartment hostage. The kidnappers demanded mobile phones be handed over and allegedly inferred Mr Koklas would be killed if his debt was not paid.
It is believed Mr Koklas told his friends he thought he would be killed before escaping to the apartment balcony. A struggle ensued and he fell to the ground below.
Investigators will allege Mr St John and Mr Lappin then fled the apartment, jumped into the SUV and drove on the wrong side of the road as they made their getaway.
Mr Lappin, 36, was arrested days later and charged with attempted murder. Another co-accused, Jace Burns, also faces the same charge and was released on bail last month.
Mr St John managed to evade police until October 23. It is understood he was carrying a handgun and was arrested in a stolen Mercedes coupe.
Mr St John's case was adjourned until December 8, however he is not expected to be in the court for the next hearing.
