The six-wicket victory by Black Stars ended the finals hopes of Cavaliers, who needed a victory to ensure their place in Saturday’s decider.
Black Stars’ newly appointed captain Kyle Keighery was pleased that everyone was able to contribute to their victory.
“Obviously, it was great to remain undefeated and head into the final with strong momentum,” he said.
“But the most important thing was that people are starting to hit their straps ahead of the final on Saturday against Townview.
“If we can have contributions right across the board again this weekend, I think we should be in for a strong showing.”
Recruit Alistair Baker starred with the ball for the victors, with 3-11 from his four overs.
“Alistair’s spin bowling really turned the match in our direction, with a few of Cavaliers’ batters getting their eyes in against our quicks,” Keighery said.
“He took full advantage of the platform set by Jamie Stewart and Raji Gunatilake, who opened the innings.
“Andrew Cullis cleaned up the tail with three wickets of his own, which were well deserved.”
Cavaliers managed 8-154 from their 20 overs, with opener Mick Richards top scoring with 48, with Jason Nayler (24) and Alex Cleary (20) chipping in.
Black Stars’ deep batting line-up again proved its class, with four batsmen scoring more than 20 runs.
Knocks from Andrew Cullis (34), Trent Cameron (36), Kyle Keighery (43) and Ryan Battelley (22) ensured Black Stars reached the total in the 18th over.
“Andrew Cullis capped off a strong all-round day with a handy knock at the top of the order for us,” Keighery said.
“With most of our players getting starts, and a few of our stronger batsmen returning next Saturday, it puts us in a solid position.
“We know Townview will be up for the match and always prove to be a tough opponent, but our boys will be keen to add to the success of the past couple of years with some silverware.
“It’s a match that could go either way but I know our boys will be up for it.”
