A donation from Mount Isa Mines made the improvements possible at the school, with principal Reno Tieppo describing the assistance as invaluable.
Mr Tieppo said Mount Isa Mines had been a huge help to the school with the donation of four wheelchair-accessible tables this year, and a bus last year, which has helped improve learning for the students.
“The previous tables did not have the space to enable wheelchairs to move beneath the table, the tables are now in place and students are benefiting from the improvements to our school,” he said.
“This means our students will have an improved outcome as we use their tables for lunch and art work.’’
Mount Isa Mines community relations adviser Jemma Schweikert said the new tables were aimed to improve the school for the students.
“The new wheelchair accessible tables were funded from Mount Isa Minds community assistance program which aims to improve infrastructure and community capacity building incentives,” she said.
“Through this program we aim to improve community services which will enhance the liveability of Mount Isa for all of the community.”
Mount Isa State Special School has 18 students and is expecting to have 24 next year along with the arrival of a new teacher from Brisbane.
