And the well-known form expert and racing identity will tick off another racetrack on Saturday when he ventures to Mount Isa.
Callander has been to racing carnivals in Kalgoorlie (Western Australia), Warnnambool (Victoria) and Oakbank (South Australia), just to name a few, and is excited to experience north-west Queensland.
“I prefer to mix with the ‘bushies’ ... they’re my type of people,” he said.
There will be plenty of banter at the track but Callander is also looking forward to having a bet with the local bookmakers.
Callander comes to Mount Isa on the recommendation of leading trainer Chris Waller and a promise to prominent Mount Isa business pair Graham and Linda Huddy.
Waller told him to expect it to be “hot” but a great experience.
“The Huddys do a lot for charity and a lot for the charity myself and my wife run 4Tracks4kids,” Callander said.
4Tracks4Kids was founded by Callander and helps Australian children through raising funds to help develop medicines and cures for kid’s diseases, training medical personal and purchasing important medical equipment.
Waller’s Mount Isa appearance followed Black Caviar’s trainer Peter Moody’s visit in 2012.
Callander will attend the second-to-last race meeting on the schedule for the year before speaking at the Mount Isa Race Club awards night on Saturday.
Callander hails from a famous racing family and is the son of racecaller ‘‘King Callander’’ (Ken).
