A DOMINANT four-over spell from Black Stars opening fast bowler Jarrod Hill has led his side to Twenty20 glory against Townview.
Hill claimed 6-24 from his four overs at Sunset Oval in the Mount Isa Cricket Association Twenty20 grand final on Saturday.
Starries’ dominant bowling display from the outset showed why they are yet to drop a game in the shortened format.
Townview sat precariously at 4-15 after four overs, after Hill’s second over claimed three wickets for three runs.
“Our two opening bowlers Jarrod Hill and Jamie Stewart certainly put us in a strong position from the outset,” Keighery said.
“Those two have proven to work together well, by keeping the pressure on from both ends.
“Because of that pressure, someone is always going to reap the rewards and this week it was Jarrod Hill.”
The only two Townview batsmen to offer any resistance were Az Germaine (29) and Clint Heuir (25), but the damage had already been done.
Set 97 for victory, Starries were aware that losing early wickets were the only way they could lose.
A 29-run opening stand by Ian Barlow (17) and Scott Kyle (29) laid the platform for Starries skipper Kyle Keighery to bring the team home.
Keighery scored 49 not out off 30 balls, including a match winning six, to secure Black Stars the 2014 Twenty20 crown.
“After winning all the round games, we knew we had the win in us, but we exceeded our own expectations by holding Townview to that total,” Keighery said.
“It was a due reward for the whole squad who has contributed to getting us into the final.
“This sets us up well for the longer 40-over format, with plenty of depth in the squad.
“On a personal note, I was happy to get some runs under my belt, as I was seeing the ball so well.
“It was a particularly special win for the club, as we all dug deep to get the win for a member of our club.”
For Black Stars, both Andrew Lawrenson and Nathan Giles recorded figures of 1-15, while Wayne Wood was the pick of the Townview bowlers with 1-17.
