The Dingoes won 23-22 after Cloncurry missed a conversion attempt at the end the match, which would have sealed an unlikely win.
“It wasn’t our prettiest win of the season, but we will take it and move forward on to next week,” Warrigals coach Rob Peters said.
“It was a scrappy game, with both teams playing with high intensity throughout.
“The most pleasing thing was to see the boys win in a different fashion than we had done in the previous two weeks.”
Dingoes jumped out to a 22-10 lead, but Cloncurry forced its way back into the match.
“Cloncurry kept coming in the latter stages of the match but our defence stayed strong and continued to hold them out,” Peters said.
“Our forwards were exceptional all match, as we had to adjust on the fly to Cloncurry playing a game more emphasised on running the football.’’
Peters praised the efforts of Casey Kempson and Matthew Cox as well as Ashleigh Buchbach for his hit on Cloncurry captain Hamish Chrisp.
“Hamish is one of the toughest players in the competition and Ashleigh’s hit floored him.
‘‘It’s just great to see some of the younger blokes step up and prove themselves, because it is going to leave me with a welcome headache when other players return.
“Having won three in a row, we are determined to win our last two matches before Christmas break.”
Question Marks skipper Hamish Chrisp said despite the loss, there were plenty of positives to take from the match.
“It was pleasing to see us play the full 80 minutes, but there are still some things we need to work on,” he said.
“A couple of times we would get a half break in the line and push the pass.
“Once we develop better cohesion as a team I know some of those passes will start to stick.”
