“In 2012 Neighbourhood Watch QLD specifically set out to increase the number of people involved in NHW activities and to take NHW online with a focus on social media, whilst maintaining the staple face-to-face communications,” she said.
“This has enabled NHW to engage interest from a diverse audience, for example our youngest member being eight years old and most popular being mid-20s, located all over the Mount Isa district and other areas. Mount Isa is unique and efficient when it comes to who is and how we are looking out for our neighbours.”
Crime prevention is a staple of Neighbourhood Watch along with crime prevention, quality of life and social inclusion.
“We do this through education and promotion. The program can be whatever the community wants/needs it to be within its mission,” Ms Barnes said.
“Because NHW is flexible, we are able to make positive impacts in a variety of ways. We communicate our movements through our social media, community events and of course celebrate our achievements at our AGM.’’
