‘‘We aim to improve the level of personal and household security, to encourage individuals to mark their property for ease of identification if stolen and to improve the relationship between local police and the community," Neighbourhood Watch Mount Isa president Ms Barnes said.
“We also aim to provide support and reassurance to local residents to reduce the fear of crime.
‘‘We also encourage neighbourliness and closer communities as well as improve the quality of life for local residents and tenants in our neighbourhood.”
Ms Barnes said the challenges for Neighbourhood Watch in Mount Isa were the city’s transient community.
“Outreach is one of our challenges, we need community members to help us enhance neighbourhood ties simply by engaging in conversations and meeting new neighbours,” she said.
“The message is to foster these behaviours as your safety lifestyle.
‘‘We always welcome new ideas and assistance, if you would like to become involved in NHW please contact us.”
