THE Isa Challengers will head into their first 40-over match against Western Bulls full of confidence.
After recording their first win in the Mount Isa Cricket Association in their last match against Panthers, the new boys of the competition are keen to push on for another win.
“The boys have taken a lot of confidence from the six-a-side tournament and first competitive win against Panthers,” Challengers captain Naren Ramachandran said.
“Combine that with a couple of strong training sessions and the boys are ready for Sunday’s match.”
Ramachandran has pinpointed fielding and batting as the keys to his side for the match at Sunset Oval.
“With us moving into the longer format, getting a big score on the board is imperative if we are going to be competitive,” he said.
“All of our batsmen will get a chance to set themselves and put together a big score, which wasn’t possible in the shorter forms.
“Both Kuldip Sohda and Girish Mahendranadh are key to start off our innings, and I’m sure the other batsmen will take confidence from them, if they can post a solid score.
“On the flip side of this, in the field, we need to be sharper and cut down as many twos to singles.
“With Akshay Beniwal returning and adding another dimension to our bowling attack, I’m sure we can contain Bulls’ top order.
“Sandeep Meka will again be the key to leading our attack and hopefully taking a couple of early wickets.
“With many of the boys not having played in a 40-over match before, the key will be patience.
“If things don’t go our way, we can’t drop our heads, because otherwise the game will get away from us.”
