Jack Grimes has stepped down as a co-captain of Melbourne Football Club, paving the way for Nathan Jones to assume sole possession of the skipper's role in 2015.

Grimes, who was named as a joint leader of the Demons as a 22-year-old two years ago, said he wanted to remain in the club's leadership group.
"This has been a hard decision, which I have spent considerable time thinking about during the off-season," he said in a statement released by the club. "During this period, I have spoken to a number of people I trust and I appreciate the support of the club in respecting this decision.
"There is no doubt my leadership has evolved and developed during my time as co-captain. However, clearly on-field is the most important aspect of leadership, and my own on-field performance needs to improve.
"By removing the co-captaincy role, I believe I can put all my mental and physical energy into improving my on-field performance, which will be the best thing for myself and the team."
Grimes was controversially named as co-captain of the Demons with fellow youngster Jack Trengove in 2012 by then Melbourne coach Mark Neeld.
Trengove became the youngest captain in VFL/AFL history.
The duo held the joint captaincy for two seasons before Grimes was joined by Nathan Jones as co-captains under Paul Roos for the 2014 season.
Melbourne with finalise their leadership structure early next year.
