Instead of singing at Florence Clarke Park as was scheduled, Saint Joseph’s School prep and Year one students performed inside the Cloncurry Community Precinct.
Plan B option worked; they entertained parents and sugar hyped siblings with lyrics including “Christmas in Cloncurry on a scorching summer’s day” as the thunder rolled.
Memphis Moovers also sang at the event earlier while children lined up to collect Christmas presents from Santa under the Christmas tree.
600 presents were donated by Uniting Care Community – with the remaining presents to be delivered to children in Dajarra on Sunday.
Fortunately, children did not seem to notice one of Santa’s elves - a Cloncurry Shire employee – frequently hiding Santa’s pillow case.
The jumping castle could not be used because of heavy wind, but children enjoyed riding the merry-go-round in Scarr Street – which was closed to traffic for the event.
