Sporting associations, members and clubs are invited to attend the Mount Isa City Council-run initiative Successful Sports: Information and Networking Session from 5.30pm at the council chambers in West Street.
Mount Isa City Council sport and recreation co-ordinator Stephanie McCallum said the session would open a channel of communication between Mount Isa’s sporting associations, community groups and the council.
“We get a lot of questions with regards to grants and also the Office of Fair Trading,” Ms McCallum said.
“Rather than address all issues one-on-one, we are bringing everyone together with the goal of explaining opportunities and answering questions.”
The information session includes speakers from the Mount Isa City Council as well as chartered accountant Eryan Haddon and will focus on key areas involved in managing the day-to-day running of a sporting association including financial management.
Councillor Kim Coghlan, chair of Sport and Beautification, said the council had a wealth of knowledge and wanted to assist associations with planning for the year ahead.
“Executive and committee members are the backbone of sporting associations and supporting them is vital to the future of sports and recreation in Mount Isa,” Cr Coghlan said.
“We understand everyone is voluntary and that the legalities of running associations can sometimes be overwhelming.
“Educating associations on their options means that they can work smarter and safer.”
This information and guidance opportunity is free for community members looking to secure the success of their local sporting associations.
