It was an uplifting result for the Demons, and a $1.9 million turnaround from their loss of the previous year. It is also a feather in the cap of chief executive Peter Jackson and president Glen Bartlett, who both completed their first full seasons in charge.
"We're pleased. In an absolute sense it's not a big number, but the turnaround is huge," Bartlett told radio SEN.
"I'm very pleased we turned the corner. We were a little bit top-heavy last year, but we've addressed that, and the cost control hasn't been at the expense of footy."
Bartlett also flagged that the club would consider approaching Adelaide gun Patrick Dangerfield, who becomes a free agent at the end of 2015.
"If he is available you'd be insane not to think about it. Having said that, we're really delighted with what came out of the draft last week for us in terms of midfielders."
