The town is buzzing with new projects - and that's why he's excited about his new role as chief executive officer at the Cloncurry Shire Council.
"There is great development and infrastructure work happening in Cloncurry," he said.
"It is an exciting time to be here and I am sure that council will continue their good work in developing the community infrastructure making Cloncurry a preferred place for developers to invest, for people to live and work and for tourists to stop and explore this town and its surrounds."
Neeves comes to the council with past experience in smaller, rural towns.
He has come from Gilgandra in Central West NSW with many years of local government experience under his belt.
"Gilgandra is a rural town with a population of 2700 people, similar to (Cloncurry)," he said.
"I have experienced life in a smaller rural community, so I'm familiar with the benefits and the challenges this brings."
Mr Neeves said he was eager to start working with the council and becoming part of the community of Cloncurry.
"I am looking forward to settling in and getting to know the councillors, its staff and the Community," he said.
Mr Neeves comes to Cloncurry with four children and his wife and family will be joining him shortly.
"They are looking forward to joining me," he said.
"I believe in committing to the town you work in and we (family) intend to be here for the longer term" said David.
He will be spending the next few weeks getting to know councils operations and the community.
"Each council is different, they all have variations on what functions they perform and how these are completed," he said.
David also thanked Mrs Joanne Green for her efforts, who has been acting CEO for the past 11 months.
Mayor Andrew Daniels welcomed Mr Neeves as CEO and said that the appointment will bring some stability to the Council.
