Dwight was recently selected into the under 16s Queensland Murri team that will play the under 16s New South Wales Koori team on February 13 at Suncorp Stadium.
“It all started when I got selected into the Brisbane Stingers team to play and trial in the four-day Qld Murri Cup Carnival in Redcliffe in late September,” Dwight said.
“There was a total of 16 teams and over 300 players trialling to gain selection into the Queensland side.
“On the last day I was chosen to play in the Possibles v Probables match and thankfully I was selected into the Queensland team after that match.
“Once the Queensland side was selected, I attended a three-day camp on the Gold Coast before flying out on a tour of New Zealand.
“While over in New Zealand, we played Tokoroa High School and defeated them 58-8, which I scored a try in.
“Two days after that, we played the New Zealand international side and we went down by a try, but I again scored.”
Dwight started his rugby league journey at the age of nine with the Sunset Tigers.
“I started playing rugby league all those years ago because I loved watching it on television,” he said.
“The greatest influence on my sporting career would be watching Scott Prince, knowing that he came from Mount Isa and attended Sunset State School, just as I did.”
Dwight, 15, who now attends Brisbane’s Pine Rivers State High School, rates this achievement as the highest of his career.
“Being selected into the Queensland Murri side would easily be the greatest accomplishment of my career,” he said.
“I’m pretty excited about being selected into this team, as I have the opportunity to represent both Queensland but also my mob.
“It gives some of the younger players, something to look up and aspire to.”
The five-eighth and fullback will begin preseason training on January 6 with the Norths Devils.
“I’ll start training with the Devils three times a week in early January before going into a week-long camp with the Queensland side,” he said.
“I’m going to continue to work hard and hopefully achieve my dream of making the NRL one day, hopefully for the Melbourne Storm.”
