For the first time in a few years, the club hosted a carnival in November to celebrate the milestone anniversary.
It also celebrated such a successful start to the season, with record member numbers, a swim training camp hosted by the legendary Jan King and a swag of new equipment thanks to Ernest Henry Mining’s Community Assistance Program.
The committee is extremely happy with the number of members, and while it has meant that the voluntary coaches have had to put in quite a few extra hours to cater for all the swimmers, the community has been the main beneficiary of the club.
The Curry Crocs are always looking for extra volunteers to help coach the swimmers, and welcome all inquiries from parents or interested parties.
The past two years has seen the club successfully secure scholarships to send the coaches away to gain their bronze level coaching qualifications, with other volunteers also gaining their competitive strokes qualifications to assist where required.
The Cloncurry Swimming Club has started the 2014-2015 season with new uniforms including its bright colourful club swimmers and shirts, with new pool backstroke flags donated by Cliff McIntyre custom made with the Curry Crocs logo.
The Curry Crocs recently gratefully accepted an abundance of new equipment donated by Glencore’s Ernest Henry Mining Community Assistance Program including kickboards, hand paddles, pull boys and fins to assist in their training regimen.
Swimming club grants officer Kylee Ferguson said the funding had significantly improved training opportunities for club members.
“We’ve had a 33 per cent increase in members this season so the new equipment will assist our volunteer coaches with their training programs for the swimmers,” Ferguson said.
